Default 96 s-10 overrevving
put new fuel pump in 96 S-10. went to start and the engine goes to 6000 RPM's. did not do that before replacing pump

Large vacuum leak. I would look for any hoses that have not been connected back up properly.

The throttle is not somehow stuck open? Yea, sounds like a vacume leak.

I wish I woulda known that about a year ago! I had a volvo that did the same thing. Yet, the expert volvo mechanic I took it to told me just not to worry about it since it only did it every now and then.
