My Blazer won't shift into 3rd even when shift it manually. 1st, 2nd and reverse are all working perfectly. I've made the assumption that my trans is cooked so I have found another to buy. I am confident in my ability to replace it but I was just wondering if anyone had any helpfull tips for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

is it throwing any codes? if it is you need to have it scanned.. could be the 2-3 shift solenoid, a scan will tell. If there is no codes it sounds like your 3-4 clutch pack is toast, then again maybe not... does it go into 3rd and then slip, act like its in neutral or don't it even try to go into 3rd. i dont think it could be the 3-4 servo, if i remember correctly if it is the servo you should still have 3rd gear also, someone correct me if I am wrong

There are no codes. It shifts from 1st to 2nd perfectly, when you hit the point that it shifts to 3rd, you can see the rpm drop like it has shifted but it then acts like it is in neutral. Once the rpms get high enough it shifts back to 2nd. I'm pretty sure its smoked.
I have looked around the site but I can find a re and re instruction. I have changed quite a few trannys before, but never a 4wd unit. Is there an instruction on the site already?
Thanks

Did you figure out what the problem was?
I'm thinking abut buying a 1998 S-10 4X4 that wont shift into 3rd gear.
From what I hear, the man that owns it (older man late 70s) changed the trans fluid and when he got it all back together and drove it,, it wouldn't shift into 3rd.
I'm thinking he might have damaged one of the solinoids when he put the pan back on because the transmission worked great before he changed the fluid.
If thats the case,,, What kind of damage could happen by driving it like that?
Any help would be appreciated.
