Default 97 front end siezed

While highway driving, doin about 65 with the cruise control on and both front wheels locked up. I wasnt in 4 wheel drive, and it blew apart the bearings where the front drive shaft connects to the differential. So I took the front shaft off and couldnt see anything else wrong anywhere but the front wheels still wont budge when you try driving it. But when I jack the front up they will turn by hand? So I thought a gear was all messed up inside the differential but why will it move by hand lifted, but lock up solid when you try driving it?! Thanks!

Could this be caused by anything electronic? or do I need to replace the differential? Help!

If you jack up the front end the wheels can turn in opposite directions via the spider gears in the differential even if the drive shaft is locked. Driving they have to turn in the same direction at the same time, if something is keeping the differential and/or pinion from turning you're not going anywhere.

I havent replaced the drive shaft but the wheels both turn either way in the air, but wont budge trying to drive it, I guess I didnt try turning them both at the same time since its just me, but I'll check that out asap!
