98 blazer battery problem

Default 98 blazer battery problem

im having a problem for some reason if i let my truck sit for a whole day the battery will die when i got to turn it over it just clicks ive had the check engine light tested at autozone but nothing gave me the answer so now im here. i thought it might be the powerlocks since my powerlocks arent working not even on the passenger side. ive took out the abs fuse out from both under the hood and on the side of the dash..i dont have abs either. i took the rear window wiper out, i took the power lock fuse out thinking it could just be locking its self.. in a previous thread i made i was having problems with my driver door coming unlocked.

i really need some help ive took out alot of fuses and no luck what should i do next.

Have the battery tested: make sure it can pass a load test and that it will take and hold a charge. Auto parts stores will check them for free. If the battery checks out OK, test the charging system.

i had the battery tested today it was at 11.7 they charged it for 45 minutes then said the battery test came back good. they told me to use a ohm meter install that on the neg side and take out fuse by fuse untill your voltage goes up then go from there. it just started happening last week.

That method won't tell you a thing on this vehicle. Too many memories drawing power continuously, you'd never see a change. Before you go too far... did you check alternator maximum output amperage and that the voltage regulator maintains 14.2 volts at 1500 RPM with a fully charged battery?

well wouldnt the alt quit charging after a while and just run on the battery? then the vehicle stop running i had a car do this before. i mean i hope it the alt because ive been looking for a high output alt for some time now i might be able to just spend the money on one.

If the charging system quits working, (alternator, voltage regulator etc) the vehicle will run on the battery until it dies. A battery is like a gas tank, you need to fill it. It's the charging systems job to keep the battery full. Start the engine, bring it to 1500 RPM and check the voltage at the battery terminals & post your results. This will tell if the alternator is at least charging the battery, it won't tell how much, just if it's charging or not.

so your saying once i shut off the vehicle it should keep a good voltage? i was driving it all day with no problems i installed a different battery out of my other truck it started up with no problems. could my positive cable have a short in it? ive already replaced that. but i will check the voltage when i get out of work

When you shut the vehicle off, voltage begins to drop. Keep alive memories in the various onboard computers draw a certain amount of battery power all the time, with the engine running or not. These continuous draws are referred to as "parasytic draw" and should not exceed ~1200ma. If you don't start the vehicle or keep the battery charged, a good, fully charged battery will last a couple of weeks before it goes dead.

Check the voltage at 1500RPM first, then if you want extra credit, I can explain how to check parasytic draw

lol im kinda leaning towards the alternator is bad i just dont wanna really believe it is because its kinda alot of money to replace it. but i found a high output 300amp alt for 220 on ebay so im gunna buy that this week.

Must be nice to be able to throw around $220 Why not diagnose this thing and THEN make a decision. Can't be that difficult to figure it out.
