Hi I'm new to the forum... I have a 1998 Blazer ls, 4x4 and I'm replacing the fuel filter. I've gotten as far as taking the lines out of the filter, but I can't seem to get it out of the round bracket. Any suggestions that would make this easier? I've tried putting a hammer on one end, using part of the frame to hold it, and trying to push the filter out of the bracket but it will not budge!

Any suggestions will be appreciated. thanks

 

Uh... Yeah... What about unbolting that bracket from the inside of the frame? Its like 12-13-14mm bolt,can you not see this? A Hammer? Really? Hmmm

 

quicky lube place my wife took hers to just unbolted it and threw the bracket away. the lines were so stiff they hold the filter in place. i wouldn't have done it myself because i figure chevy put it there for a reason, but it hasn't caused any problems in tes of thousands of miles since.

 

Thats how to do it. You might still have to hammer out the filter from the bracket after you remove it as sometimes the filter is pretty tight. Grind down the ribs in the bracket a bit to make it easier the next time you change it.

 

Yes, a hammer. it was an easy job but the biggest PITA.

I unbolted the bracket, (13mm) popped the fuel/brake lines off the top, and out came filter. bracket and all. It was still next to impossible to get the filter out of the bracket, so I dunked it in steaming hot water for 30 seconds or so, and it came right out with a little bit of twisting.

New filter didn't want to go in, so again I put the bracket in steaming hot water for 30+ seconds, and it slid right in.
