Default 98 variety of issues

Hi all,
I recently picked up a 98 Blazer LT. There are a couple of issues I didn't pick up on when purchasing the vehicle so I need a little help to diagnose and fix a few things.

First up.... drivers side door. From the look of the inside (small crack in plastic) it would appear someone opened the door and a cyclist or someone on a scooter hit it while open - the lower door pin is a little weak also. I just picked up the car when the front left speaker in the door stopped working. Easy to fix? Also, the electric side mirrors do not seem to function. Now would this be a faulty wire? Spent motors? What do you think?

Second... fuel gauge. As my gas level decreases, the gauge goes a little nuts. Switching the tranny from Park to Reverse or Drive stops it from bobbing around, but while in park it wobbles round like a plate of jello. Is something loose in the fuel tank? Or some sensor going bad? (Be gentle, I'm new to Blazer maintenance!)

Thanks!

Speaker - The speaker is very easy to fix, you have to take the door panel off to get to it, once thats done its basic wiring, replace both front for even sound.

Mirror - Blazers have horrible mirror switches, try getting one out a junk yard, and replacing it, the entire switch control pops out with a flat head, you can then unplug the mirror switch and pop a new one in.

Gas Gage - Normal, as its a common problem, many times its the sending unit which requires dropping of the gas tank to replace.

I agree with the above post but will add a couple things. If your gas gauge works fine when you are in drive, I would let it be, dropping the tank is a real pain and a new sending unit is not cheap. Also, regarding the mirrors, I've had issues with mine as well, but usually I can find one direction that will work (after holding each for a few seconds), once I find that direction and get the mirror to move a bit, the the other directions will work. Hey, I didn't say it made sense, just that its what happens to me...

Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find a replacement switch for the mirrors and some new speakers. What's a good way to remove the door panel? I've never done it before.

I'll leave the gauge alone as it seems (from reading around the forum) that is is a pain and $$$ to fix. I'll just make sure not to let my gas run too low.

Also, failed to mention before. My headlight switch doesn't seem to operate. It would appear that I am stuck in dipped beam all of the time. Brights work fine. Any thoughts?

The main thing is to realize that there are two bolts, running through the door handle. You'll need a small socket on an extension, or a nut driver, to get to them. The rest of the panel just prys outward, then lifts up from the window.
