does it flash service 4x4?
mine was doing this earlier today (when i needed it) and all the lights lit up on the transfercase buttons.
i just went outside and tried it again...no go...then i pushed and held 4x4 and put the truck in neutral so if the shafts were trying to engage it would roll and lock properly...well it struggled but it went in.
now its working normally again...i dont really know what to make of this except that i heard it could be weak air pressure or clogged air tube.

Today when i went to put it into 4 high, it actually clicked for a few seconds and went back into 2wd but the second time the 4 wheel high button lite up. The front wheels still did not lock in though and i was still in 2 wheel drive...

Did you search around on the site using the search function? What you describe could be any number of things: the actuator under the battery, the shift mechanism in the front axle, the vacuum switch on the transfer case, bad vacuum lines, etc. What all have you done to diagnose it? Are you sure the Transfer Case is engaging? Will it go into 4Lo?

GM tech just told me to check the 4x4 module by the kickplate and make sure connections are still good...it gets a lot of moisture in there apparently.

If it will go into 4Lo, and 2 Hi, but not 4Gi. It is probably the encoder motor located on the transfer case.
This motor tells the TCCM and the switch what "mode" the transfer case is in. IF the encoder motor is bad the system can't tell what position the case is in, thus putting it in the extremes. (i.e 2 hi or 4hi.)
