These comments go back to June 2010 thread made by "Guns of Navarone". I wish I would have seen this before attempting to replace my fuel pump this weekend. Really good info on the front hanger strap bolt and retainer ring. If you have any corrosion under there, just figure the bolt will snap and the ring will be a mess. I wish I would have known that the after-market straps did not come will the bolt and GM screws you into buying their poorly designed and fabricated strap. Plan on the getting the retainer ring and fussing with the blister rusted slotted locking "teeth". Mine were a mess and I had to uses PB Blaster, file and wire brush to clean them up. I still had to punch tap them into place, because up the upward pressure from the pump spring. Used marvel Mystery oil on the seal and silicone too. I like the idea of the rust restorer and anti-seize grease as well, in case you may ever have to do this again.

I watched several YouTube videos and online advice before tackling this job, but nothing addressed these issues appropriately. Overall, this would not have been that bad of a job, except for the hanger bolt fiasco and lock ring issue. My vehicle came from the Minnesota/Wisconsin area where a lot of road salt is used in the winter. If your Blazer has suffered through similar climates, just plan on dealing with the above. Needing a new fuel pump is a sure thing, so get your hanger strap now. Wish there was an aftermarket one available, because it pisses me off GM has done this and I would have like to have Mac Givered a solution just to teach them a lesson. Right?? I still have not got my tank hung yet. Hard to get to the dealer when your gas tank is off.
