I went to the store today after i finally got my 99 Blazer started from another issue that is still present and i noticed a turbine noise when the truck is in any gear except park. No codes being thrown except codes for another issue i addressed in a different post, What would cause the turbine noise and could it be nothing or something big, it just started it today?

 

Does your motor move around a lot when you put the truck into gear with the engine running? I have seen this before with bad motor mounts where the fan hits the shroud when in gear. It usually is worse when in one direction as opposed to the other (reverse or drive).

Does it do it in neutral as well?

 

Your other issue wasn't a new fan clutch, was it?

 

A turbine noise would be a high pitched whine. Is that what it sounds like or is it just a loudroaring noise?

 

Mine does the exact same thing, its like "HEY HERE COMES DAN, WE CAN HEAR HIM DOWN THE ROAD.." type loud. Its not so much a whine as it is a rawr to me, it literally sounds like a small plane.

I was told it was a bearing in my rear axle, I'm getting it fixed next week, but would like more information.

 

sounds like it might be the fan clutch

 

i took it in today and they are saying it sounds like its the torque converter. it does it in all gears except Neutral or Park. it honestly sounds like a jet turbine.

 

A few people suggested that to me, but i'm not too worried as it shifts fine. Try to do what I did and see where you hear the "turbine" noise.

 

It does sound transmission related to me. Not a good sign. Expensive repair

 

stuck my head under the truck today, Which by the way if you dont have a person you trust holding the brake why it is in gear DONT DO!!!. I thankfully did though and i really can't pin point where it is coming from. But you can tell it is coming from the Trans. So i am figuring at least $3,000
