Default abs brakes issue no light

I have a 1998 4wd 4 disc brakes. when coming to a stop 99% of the time it feels like the abs is on, but the abs light is not. We have put on all new rotors, calipers, and pads, cleaned the sensors and still can't figure out what is causing this. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

The ABS light does not come on when the ABS is active, the light comes on if there is a problem with the ABS system, if the light is not on the the ABS system is ok. When you are coming to a stop can you hear the ABS motor and feel a vibration in the pedal? If it does have a read thru this thread

Hope this helps

My 98' had 155k on it when this problem arose. My family couldn't drive it, because they didn't know how to stop it. I didn't have the money to have it fixed, so I would bleed the brakes, clean the sensors / rotors / etc. every so often, but the problem still arose. The week I put it up for sale is the week I almost caused a serious 4 car pile-up in the city, because my brakes had a fit at 40 mph, downhill, and wouldn't let me depress the brake. I swerved to avoid a new VW rabbit, swerved again to avoid a head-on with a Dodge Hemi-Ram, which put me on two wheels, and as I recovered that, somebody cut me off pulling out of a parking lot, and I swerved to avoid t-boning him...brakes worked after that...of course

IT WAS A BAD SENSOR. This problem started as once in a while, and quickly grew to all the time...When I handed the keys to the kid who bought it, I handed him the ABS fuse I pulled, and explained to him what happened, and what he had to do to fix it. You will not have power assisted brakes, but you will live to see another day...be careful

Glad to hear you got it fixed what was the remedy? did a wheel sensor test bad or did you just clean them?

We just had to clean the sensors and the seat which they fit into. the drivers front seemed to be the culprit there was a bit of rust and corrosion. Once cleaned and put back in with new o-rings to seal worked fine. thanks again.
