If the ABS light is coming on, there is likely a recorded fault in the ABS control module. Not every scanner can access this though.

If it is intermittent, it could be a problem with the brake fluid level or the sensor that is in the reservoir. It could also be a problem with a wheel speed sensor wire being pinched or otherwise damaged.

Does the ABS system ever activate under light braking?

Is the e-brake going on at the same time? If not its most likely a wheel speed sensor, have you changed the ride height on your vehicle at all?

My abs light started coming on and off about when my hub bearing assembly started to fail in my front passenger side wheel. After I got that fixed (around $400), the abs started to function normally. If you start to hear anything resembling popcorn popping, that'd probably be it.

I just replaced that one about 1 1/2 mos ago.....and the brake fluid is fine.

I guess I need to see if any wires are pinched
