We recently bought a used 2000 blazer with about 140K miles on it. The front drivers side break was making this strange sound / action while stopping at slow speeds, maybe under 10 MPH. After a little searching I found this thread. The Original poster gave a good description:
"....It is hard to describe: Like a pulsate..vibrate...grab?? when I go to stop. Sometimes along with this I hear what sounds like a motor or compresser kick on (in pedal area) just while I am applying the brakes. I am able to stop, but sometimes it feels for a split second like maybe I won't. "

Sounds quite a bit like what mine is doing. The last reply to the thread, cks20 gives this suggestion:

"I had the exact same problem with my 2000. Pull the fuse for the ABS (I think it is #22) from the fuse panel on the left side of the dash when the drivers door is opened. The ABS light will be on and the cruise control might not work, but if your problem goes away with the fuse out it is probably the front wheel speed sensors. There's a bunch of info about this on this site about how to fix this - it's a common problem. "

I tried this on my blazer and it made the problem stop. There are a couple of things I am wondering about. How long is it safe to drive it without the ABS working? Will taking out the fuse cause even more serious problems with the ABS further down the road?

While stopping with the fuse in place and the problem occurring, what is the motor sound? Sounds a little like an electric motor or pump.
