Default After half tank, gas gauge drops down all the way when I stop!

Just recently my gas gauge has been going crazy.

Once it reaches a half tank, the gauge needle will go down all the way to empty when I make a stop. I found that if I take it out of gear, the gauge quickly goes back up, but something is definately wrong. Any ideas out there? Gas tank float? Electrical issue? Gauge issue?

There are a ton of conversations in here about the wacky fuel gauges on these trucks. It is most likely the sending unit - which is attached to the fuel pump.Since the tank has to come outto fix this, Iam waiting for my fuel pump to go south before doing the repair. I just reset my trip meter every fill-up and make sure I fill it back up before going much more than about 250 or 260 miles. Been doing that for about 40,000 miles now.

Thanks for the reply. I reset the tripometer every fill up anyway just to see how many miles I've been getting. I just wasn't sure how it will effect anything when the "low fuel" light keeps coming on. Never had this new of a car, so I didn't know if it would wig out the computer or something.

The only thing that uses the fuel level sender is the fuel gauge. No worries on the 'wig out the computer' front.
