Default Air conditioning noise

Has anyone else had a problem where there’s a lot of wind noise when max a/c is on? It sounds like something is opening and closing sometimes when the wind dies down and makes a whistling wind noise. Is there some sort of seal that may not be attached all the way or something?

Also, per girlfriends request, I need to fix the vents. Whatever seal was on the vents before when you open and close them is now gone so being that I have no heat my girlfriend turns into an ice cube. You can turn it off but some air still noticeably escapes. What would be the best material to use to seal it up? I saw where the old one went on. It looked like soft foam or something.

For max a/c I believe the system reverts to using air from within the passenger compartment rather than from outside. As such, you can hear the air being sucked into the air box more easily. The door for the internal air supply on my 1999 is behind the glove compartment towards the outside.

When I've had my dash panel on the driver side off to get at the radio, I noticed that the door that closes off the instrument panel vent on the left side had around its perimeter something that looked like 1/16" thick neoprene.

Regarding your lack of heat, is it because your blend-door actuator is bad? If so, something you might try is to manually set it to full heat until you can get to replacing the actuator once it warms up outside. This requires opening up the panel on the air box in the engine compartment where the blower-motor resistors reside (or would reside if you have a n Auto-climate control system).

Yeah I get that, it’s hard to explain what I’m trying to say but it feels like when max a/c is on and going highway speeds, I guess the wind pushes past the open recirculating door. So that means the blower isn’t pushing all the air through the vents and making excessive wind noise. I’m not entirely sure if that’s the issue, just my thought on it. I know that you’re going to hear the blower running, but I don’t think it’s normal to hear the wind outside from behind the glove box. Maybe it’s jusr bad design, but any other car or truck I’ve driven never had that much wind noise from that areaS What gets me is that at some points when driving at those speeds is that the wind will suddenly stop, like something is closing back up again, yet I can still hear the blower as normal. It’s a really bizarre problem.

The heat is just that the core was leaking so I disconnected it for the meanwhile. So on colder days my girlfriend would just turn off the vents on her side, but she still feels the air coming through them. (I’ve gotta have air blowing through so I usually keep the ac on, despite her pleas). For the manual, individual vents there’s a door in there that opens and closes to block the air. Being that this blazer 18 years old, I guess there was some sort of rubber flap or something on the black door (the one that is right before the vent controlled by the dial underneath it) that deteriorated. It looked like there was glue on it so I’m guessing that it had something attached. I just wanted to know if anyone else noticed it and what kind of material is supposed to be on it?

I've have pretty old cars in my life with my 1999 being the "newest" I've ever owned so that wind noise is something I'm used to having. LOL

I have noticed that with the air supply being set to recirculate (my Blazer has the Auto Climate control) I hear more noise due to that setting. This is the memory your original post brought to mind.

After reading your second post I had the thought that maybe it could be that you have a vacuum leak and that the door actuators are not closing fully. Just a thought.
