Default Air filter housing

I just purchased a new wix air filter to change out with the current dirty filter I have. My question is how should I clean out the filter housing? Can I use water and just spray it out or will that mess it up at all? I don't have to clean it out I guess but I just figured since it is pretty dirty it wouldn't hurt.

I'd say if you want to clean it, take it out and spray it out, then put it back on. Just to be sure you don't get water in the intake.

Yeah I took it out anyways to get some dead bugs and other debris out of it, I just saw on a website I looked at to use compressed air to clean it out but don't have any cans of air or anything. Therefore I was wondering if water would hurt it for some reason, I didn't think so since it is just a plastic housing, but I wanted to be sure. Thanks a bunch for your reply. :-P

water is fine. Let it air dry then reinstall.
