Air Filter question guys. I bought this 2003 chevy blazer with this attached. Is this a good or bad idea and why would they have mounted it? Thanks for your help. The box does seal on the hood.
I have one, I like it, Airaids version of a cold air intake.
I kept the original box just incase.
I have no performance issues, maybe better with better air flow...
I don't have one, but have often read that most need to be oiled properly to be effective. Under oiling and they don't filter very well. Over oil them and the excess oil will foul up other sensors downstream and cause problems. Periodically they need to be cleaned with a special 'soap' and then dried and re oiled before reinstalling. The advantage is the cotton gauze filter can be washed and reused many times. The disadvantage is the 'downtime' to do this lengthy procedure of washing and drying and re oiling. I think I heard there is a type of aftermarket air intake that uses a 'dry' cone style air filter. Best of both worlds?

I don't know about him, but I have a similar setup, except without the "cold air" baffle, and my IAT going down the road is within 5-10 degrees of ambient temp, depending on speed. Maybe not the best if you're trying to make maximum horsepower, but it was just a packaging issue for me, and I don't care about that last little 1/4 horsepower.
