Unhappy Airbag light on, help!

I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer S-10 LS that has had the airbag light on for some time. When I start the truck, it blinks 7x, goes off and then stays on. I have been searching for the actual locations of the sensors and the module so I can check the connections but to date haven't been able to pinpoint their location.
One article I saw said the module was under the center console, another said it was in the passenger kick panel. It also said the impact sensor was under the driver's seat, another says it was inside a plastic flap underneath the front bumper.
I'm selling the truck and would like to get this issue fixed as I'd feel guilty doing it with a non-working airbag. So....can anyone give me a tip on what I should be looking for and where? I also see that the impact sensors aren't available any longer and that the local boneyard may be the only outlet.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I used to race cars back when I was a young guy, but that was LAST century! I'm handy with the tools, but really haven't invested in any computer diagnostic equip got these newer cars.

Thanks,

Jim

The airbag module is definitely behind the passenger kick panel. I am not sure where the sensors are located. Although I read that sometimes the connections behind the front bumper get dirty and cause the airbag light to come on.

I also have a '97 and my airbag light is also on. I am just too busy to spend the time on tracing everything out to get mine working correctly right now.

Thanks, GPWagon....I found the sensors right behind the front bumper near the lower running lights. You have to open the oil filter door to see them on each side. I had an oil leak from the trans cooler lines some time ago. Fixed now but I suspect they may have fouled the connections. Gonna take it all apart , clean them and see if that works. I hope so cuz the sensors are no longer available except at the local boneyard, MAYBE.
If that doesn't work, will check the connections on the module. I think theis truck will run forever....geesh.

Make sure you disconnect the battery before you touch those sensors. It would be a very expensive mistake to have the airbags deploy.

I just replaced the ignition switch in my 98 LS. One of the steps was to disable the airbag circuit which was located behind the knee plate under the steering column. The other piece of the procedure was to remove the fuse for the SIR system(its a 15 amp fuze #16 on the inside block). After we got the steering wheel back on we started the engine and the Airbag light was on stayed on.. popped the fuse back in and all was good.

Check the fuse. It may be as simple as that.

regards

Thanks for the tip! We tried the fuse but no luck. Fuse was good, replaced it with a new fuse but didn't change the light. I suspect it's the sensors. Taking it to a mech to get them cleaned, hopefully that will resolve the issue.

Thanks!

Thanks....I downloaded a proceedure and I noticed that. All I've done to date is replace the fuse and it didn't change anything. Taking it to the mech to have the sensors cleaned. Hopefully that will solve the issue. Not confident enough to do it, don't want to blow the airbag!

Thanks for the reply! I'll let everyone know if the cleaning did the trick.

I know this is an old thread, but did you ever get this sorted out? If so, what was the final repair?
