Default Alternator help

I've been having a problem when my engine turns over, my battery is new and my cables are pretty clean. I'm thinking its the alternator, does any suggestions on some good brands of alternators? I have a 2000, 2 dr ls

The alternator has nothing to do with the starting of the engine. It only provides the power when the engine is running and recharges the battery at the same time. If your battery is at full charge, and maintaining its charge, then the alternator is doing its job.

it starts fine, sometimes but when it is running it only runs for about a minute, then engine shuts off. My gauges are all dead too.

no it doesn't because after it shuts off, i can't turn it on again. i have to have a jump start it, it'll run for a few seconds then shut off again.
