New alternator fitted and all is good, glad it wasnt a problem with the pcm.
Next question, i ve seen an alternator rebuild kit on fleabay for like $39, includes regulator, rectifier, brushes and bearings. Has anyone used this kit with good results, might be a good buy then i have spare for backup. Thanks again for your time captain hook! Steve.

The "work around" Captain hook mentioned was bypassing the pcm's signal telling the alternator to charge to determine if the pcm or the alternator was the problem.
