I'm no expert, but, I never hear my pump.
Before I replaced it I would hear it come up, I waited a couple of seconds until it was up, then hit the starter. The only time I heard the new pump was the first time I started the vehicle.

JB98BLAZER, I also just replaced my fuel pump for the second time. I did notice that different pumps will sound slightly different that the other(even though they are made by the same manufacturer). The noise which the pump makes seems to change as the amount of gas in the tank changes and also varies with the outside temperature (hot gas expands). What kind of noise are you hearing? All of the pumps that I have used on my blazer sounded like it was making a buzzing or whinning noise when they were operating "normally". The most recent one that I changed was less than 6 months old but was making a loud noise similar to a fan motor with bad bearings so I changed it.

Feel free to read my post on what lead me to change the pump.

Hope this helps

As far as fuel pumps go, you get what you pay for. A lot of the cheaper fuel pumps are just that...Cheaper. They are known for being noisy and will need replaced again.
