sounds to me like u devolped a leak that lead to further damage. no fluid is bad! i guess your tranny guy might give u the heads up but i had this problem not to long ago. i figured fluid a nd filter and see what happens. i drove for about three maybe four months like that and still had slight signs of rpms racing and not going anywhere, especially on turns. yet untill finally i blew mt reaction sun gear, which did not allow me to get past second or into rev. whatever it could be definitely deserves some attention quickly.

Sounds like what I just went through. Only I had no 2nd gear, only 1st, 3rd and Reverse.
Someone told me the 2-4 sunshell had either stripped or cracked. The choices are rebuild it at about $500-$800 for the parts or get a refurbed tranny for $1200-$2000. I am told that junk yards get around $400 for one with no guarentee it works.

So we went and got the filter and fluid changed and cleaned the maf sensor and no luck still doing the same thing. Now I am gonna take it to cottmans for there free check and see what they say.
Will driving in second gear for 25 miles to get there for them to look at it hurt it?

Is it holding 2nd gear? Banging the limiter? Slipping or just wont shift passed 2nd? Also driving in 2nd will create ALOT OF HEAT

Took it to Cottmans this morning and had them do the free 21 point check and it came back that the internal trans is messed up. I kinda figured, but was hopeing for something stupid or electrical. So now it is gonna be a yard ornament untill income tasxes come in.
We are going to have to take my 2dr Tracker everywhere now. Talk about stuffing people into a small space. It's big enough for 2 ppl but not 2-3 adults and a carseat too. Plus I got NO cargo room. [:@]

RE: Auto Trans not shifting past second
Getting a used Trans this weekend(I hope) They have 5 to choose from. 79K-93K all for $400
Gonna try for the 79K(mines got 165K now)and have the highschool shop class put it in. Probably have the origanal rebuilt later on.
Is this a good idea? or should I just go buy a rebuilt one from AutoZone/Advance
