Bell housing bolt size/class
Howdy,
I am in the middle of an engine swap (262<->262, call it replace if You like). I've brought an engine from a donor today and seems, that:
- three bolts that go to the oil pan match perfectly
- the upper threads in the block cast are are somewhat smaller (yes, I am aware there were some different casts of the engine blocks)
Could anyone advice what are the size / class of the bolts used there, please?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Bellhousing bolts are either 3/8" diameter x 16 threads per inch - or 10mm diameter x 1.5 threads per mm. Same length as what you took out. I would think grade 5 would be sufficient. Might have same issue with starter bolts in block and also might possibly need to use different starter to match different bolt size for location of starter purposes. Can't remember if diameter on bolt where starter locates is same size for metric vs other. Just be aware of it. Good luck! What did you have to pay?
Today I left home at 5AM to drive nearly 250 miles for the engine I found for $650. I haven't seen it running, but the seller (yeah, truly love these kind of guys) agreed to give a start-up warranty. It seems the bolts are going to be the last thing that stops me now.
I have everything well segregated from an old engine, so I did not insist on collecing the bolts from a messy garage ground. I wasn't expecting the old ones won't match. I guess I'll give a call to the guy asking for mailing me these bolts hoping to get them by Saturday.Btw. it was '02 Blazer, with 80k miles, but spend last 4 years unregistered standing outdoor. I was shocked when I saw how the corrosion dealt with a radiator support.
Brgds, Mike
P.S. Just checked, starter bolts don't match either.

Stupid me! I just realized I have an usb endoscope camera. If You remove just the spark plugs, You may see the pistons, cylinders, even valves. A handy tool for setting TDC #1 too. Love it <3
