What were the specific codes? Check the OBD2 Trouble Code Listing link in my signature for diagnostic trouble shooting charts for a few of the more common codes (and some uncommon ones).

i also put new plugs and wires in

p0306 and p0121

P0121 - Throttle Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance (check out P0122 or P0123 for troubleshooting ideas)
P030x - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

The TPS sensor should have a ground, +5V reference, and then the sensor return. The sensor return wire should show ~0.5V at closed throttle and ~4.5V at wide open throttle with the key on, engine off.
