Default blazer won't start

Hey, new to the forum so I hope I'm in the right spot!

I bought a 2002 Chevy Blazer Xtreme. The guy told me the fuel pump needed to be replaced (it doesn't start). So I bought it, put the fuel pump in as well as a new battery seeing how the battery was completely dead and tried to start it and it turned over but never started. So, I thought I'd try to see if it was getting fuel up through the lines. I took apart the throttle body and stuff and removed the steel lines that run up to the fuel pressure regulator and cranked it really quick. Sure enough it spit some fuel. So I'm getting fuel.

Now I'm thinking a couple things here:

Fuel Pressure regulator not doing it's job.
No spark (even though he said he changed spark plugs and wires)

Any ideas?

It could maybe the distributor, ingnition coil or ingnition module. Did you try playing with the throttle while cranking it?

Just having gas run through the lines won't start it, it has to have enough pressure. Get a fuel pressure gauge and check it. Borrow one from a buddy or go buy one at Harbor Freight. Under the black plastic cap on a steel line on the left rear of intake manifold is the access port. When you turn the key on you should have no less than 55 pounds, 60 is the factory figure but under 55 will give you problems starting. Turn the key on for a few seconds and turn it off then on to make sure it's maxed. Next thing, when you turn it off it should *hold* that pressure. If it doesn't then you have another problem, FPR is a possibility (lots to search on here regarding that) Also if you didn't replace the filter, DO THAT FIRST. You would not believe how they plug up, I figure it's the #1 reason for a scotched fuel pump, and a plugged filter will eat a new pump quick.
