Default Blazer won't start: Fuel Issue?

I have a 1996 Blazer with 31k miles. Bought it used about 6 months ago with about 26k miles on it. From the very first day I bought it, it has an intermittent problem of not starting sometimes. When it does act up it eventually starts, but sometimes only after quite a few cycles of cranking it over. Sometimes after relentless cranking the engine, I've added several gallons of gas thinking the fuel gauge might be messed and it then starts up(coincidence?).

Well, this time it won't start even with adding additional 5 gallons. The fuel pump is coming on(I can hear it), but I'm not sure fuel is getting to the engine. It's like it gets a small amount of gas because it seems to fire like for a half a second on the first crank after cycling the key on/off(just trying to pressurize the fuel line). I haven't tried starter fluid directly into the throttle body yet(that's next). The truck is broken down some distance from my house so I'm trying to get some information before I go back to try to start it.

Anyone have some tips I try when diagnosing the problem?

Oh, forgot to mention that once the truck starts it seems to run just fine.

If your fuel pump is going, get it started with the ether and get it home then your going to have to get your hands on a fuel pressure gauge.

Don't stop for doughnuts.

Start with a fuel pressure and leakdown test to determine if the problem is in the fuel system. Hook the gauge up to the schrader vale, run the test with the key on, engine off! Your initial number should be between 60 and 65 psi and not go below 55 for 10 minutes. Post back your initial and 10 minute later numbers.
