brake pads
I have a 2003 4wd blazer with 4 wheel disk, Im pretty sure i need new pads since there are squeak when i apply the brakes. I was just wondering what would be a good brand to get. Would like to stay under $100, thanks for any help

Not saying you don't need new pads, but we have 3 Blazers/Jimmys in our household, with varying degrees of wear, and on all three, the brakes squeak. You should have them looked at before you buy a new set.

x2 on that. Just because they squeak doesn't mean you need new pads. Take them apart and look at them. Sometimes its just debris on the rotors.

Yeah, I put new ceramics on my front end, a few months ago, and I'm very disappointed in them. Not only do they squeak, but I don't think the brake dust is ANY better, at all! Front wheels are still filthy, all the time. So I wouldn't recommend paying extra for ceramics.
Also, if you plan on keeping this vehicle, I'd only buy lifetime replacement pads. On my old 95, which I owned for about 9 years, I replaced the front pads, like 8 times, all FREE OF CHARGE!

i have an 01 with 180k miles on it and had just now replaced the rotors. i had turned them 3 times in the past. I dont recall having break noise problems. i always buy wagner or wearever pads and not there cheap ones. i think they are usually about 30 dollars but they seem to do a great job. When you are doing your brakes, make sure you clean up the pins and lube them with brake pin lube or never seize(high temp). I would recomend against using standard wheel bearing grease. good luck!

How much wear on a break pad before replacing it? I just checked my front break pads and they were around 1/4 inch left, slightly more wear on the outside pads than inside.

Mine is a '89 with front disk and rear drum, and my brakes have never squeaked until the wear indicator is touching, when you replace disk brakes the best thing to do is have the rotors turned, not to even them out but just enough to get a rough surface on them , unless their warped then have them fully milled down. when you change pads, don't bother with crematic, they're too expensive for the quality, but get the best you can afford, a lifetime replacement is best unless you do it yourself, if you do it yourself I recommend raybestos brake pads with anti- squeak sprayed on the back side of the pads.
