I don't know about your 1st issue but the spongey feel is likely air in your brake lines. If your calipers are good and you don't have a leak anywhere, go through the bleeding process to push the air bubbles out - you may need someone to help you with this.

Rationale: Hydraulic systems work because hydraulic fluid cannot be compressed, while air can (hence, air compressors). When air gets into the system, it makes the pedal feel spongey because the air is able to compress within the line.

Now, if this issue just "appeared", you need to go through the entire braking system to make sure there aren't any leaks at any of the connections. Somehow, air is getting into the line. (If the master cylinder reservoir goes empty, it can suck air).

My 98' did this until the day I sold it. The ABS sensors are either dirty, or the wires leading to the sensors are corroded. Go to the hubs, and CLEAN THEM! Check the wires, and replace if necessary. If after this, the brakes still give you that sensation when you step on the pedal, go under the hood and pull the ABS relay from the fuse box.

The reason I sold my blazer: I didn't have the money for the new ABS sensors, and I almost caused a 4 car pile-up because I couldn't stop.

Good Luck, and be safe!!! ~Mike
