Default Brakes Squeaking

I recently had new brakes and rotors put on my 2002 Chevy Blazer and have a constant squeaking problem. The shop that put them on has been great to deal with and has switched the break pads and rotors several times but this squeaking will not go away. The brakes do not squeak all the time only when pressed. Also the squeaking does not occur 100% of the time it seems to go in spurts. The squeaking is a very high pitched noise. Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this? Thanks.

Most likely they didn't clean the pad mounting surfaces and used some super hard pads. All sliding and contact surfaces that the pads ride on need to be cleaned. Once this is done, an antisqueak compound should be used on the back of the pads. There are several different types from the spray on to the squeeze on. I have had great luck with CRC Disk Brake Quiet which is a squeeze on and spread out product. I will typically squeeze a bit on the back of the pad and spread it out with my finger. I do this before I start the brake job so that the product has a chance to set up a bit before I install them. The spray on products work well also, but I have had some vehicles where a spray on product didn't work so well and that is when I made the switch to CRC Disk Brake Quiet. I'm on my 5th bottle now with no complaints. But as I said, you have to clean EVERY mounting surface on the calipers and brackets down to good metal first.

Thanks for the reply swartlkk. The guy at the shop has told me several times that he has cleaned everything as best as possible. I have taken it back about 5 times already so I would have to think he is telling the truth. I am not so sure about the brake spary though. Also the brake pads are ceramic.

Ceramics are often more difficult to keep from squeaking. Most people will clean the parts with emry cloth and call it good. To do a proper job, a flat file should be used to true up the surfaces. If rust buildup was a problem, the surfaces could have become irregular, adding to the tendancy for squeaks as the pads are allowed to move around more. This includes the rails that the pads slide on which are often overlooked. I have to wonder if the shims were replaced. They sometimes are not included with the pad set depending on brand.

If everything has been cleaned properly and the shims were replaced, then I would try an anti-squeak compound on the back of the pads.

Anti squeak works wonders another product I have personally used and works awesome is undercar coating the rubberized stuff!! I sprayed some on the back of numerous pads let them sit in the sun to cure a lil bit then slapped them in and no one I have done this for every complained about squeaks or squealing!!

Be very careful with undercoating. That stuff is not meant for the temperatures that can occur with brakes.

So I got the blazer back again and the brakes still squeak. I also found out that at one point they put ceramics on the back brakes but the front ones are something else. I don't know to much about this kind of stuff but something tells me it doesn't make much sense to have 2 different kinds of brake pads on. Also the squeaking is coming from the left front brake which doesn't have the ceramic pads. Any comments on the 2 different pad scenario?

It sounds like they put ceramic's in the rear and either metalic or semi-metalics in the front which squeak pretty good I would see about having them put ceramic's in the front to match the rear and give you the benifit of having ceramic's all the way around!!
