Well, it's currently working with the approximately 32oz I put in it. It was obviously leaking, so a few ounces or more could have escaped before the super seal hopefully stopped it. The gauge is based off outside air temp vs pressure. I didn't jump the compressor to the battery so no need to worry. The clutch is still making noise like it still needs more refrigerant. IDK I'm gonna leave it alone for awhile and see what happens. Thanks for the info.

I am glad its cooling. Youre right about some on the refrigerant leaking out before the sealer works. I am sure it isnt an instant action when it starts to act.

I have preached the weigh-in method of charging a system. This is my Primitive-Pete method of topping off a system. (Grandma calls, she has to take take grandpa across town for his doc appointment and the AC doesnt work.) I hook up the low side gauge. I add refrigerant until the gauge reads around 30 psi at idle. Fan on Max. I bump the idle up to about 1200 rpm and add refrigerant just until the large suction line is cold and sweaty right where it meets the compressor. This will get you in the ballpark.

Just like inflating your tire without a gauge. you know it isnt flat anymore, its better than it was but you have no way to know if its just right.

Please dont take my posts as an attack. Not meant that way at all. Sometimes when I drink too much coffee or its really really late i get a lil wound up.

Good luck! I hear its gonna get hot in tenn!

Yea, it's like 94 degrees right now. And my black blazer with black leather seats is not a friendly vehicle for these conditions. At least I get to look forward to 100+ degree weather here pretty soon!!

Nah man I understand people can get worked up on stuff they know more about. Some things just don't work like you think they would. I'm almost 21, but still learning how things work and will be for the rest of my life. Haha. That's a reason why I stay on this forum and never get on forums like s10forum, because a lot of the people are douche bags and just tell you your wrong instead of helping you out.

Im glad you have a positive attitude about learning!

It just drives me insane when someone gives bad, wrong, or unsafe advice.

Ive worked with refrigeration and HVAC since i was 18. im 41 now.

im also a volunteer firefighter and work in EMS as a hobby. Thats where my medical background is from.

Full time though, I work for the FAA. But i am not a controller. I have my hands in quite a few things.

Good luck with the Blazer!

Hi all,

I'm in the process of changing the air con compressor in my '99 2dr and wanted to post a warning for anyone who finds themselves in the same predicament. Having just spent several thousand $$ on other repairs I decided to get the cheapest compressor I could find. Did a search on line and found a "Replacement" brand one (PtNo REPC191115) which claimed to be a direct replacement for my car. Long story short, it's not. I'll post the full story in a new thread, but just wanted to post this in a few existing threads so no one gets ripped off like I did.
