Default A/C problems

I've had this problem for a while, but it has been cold so I haven't need A/C. Since it's getting hotter, I have to fix it

With the temp all the way to cold, sometimes I don't get cold air. When cold air does blow, it'll randomly warm up (not heat, the air just isn't cooled), but then it'll blow cold again. Sometimes the A/C will take a couple minutes to get cold, sometimes it gets cold immediately. I thought I'd post my problem here instead of going to a mechanic who's gonna immediately tell me I need new (insert expensive parts here). I have some mechanical experience, so I have no problem taking on a challenge. All your input will be appreciated.

u have to recharge ur system. u can buy a recharge kit from a auto parts store or have a mechanic do it for u. the kits r like $30. just follow the instructions and ul be just fine. if after u do this and it still doesnt work u may have air in ur system and ul have to get a mechanic to do it because theyl have to vac the air out and recharge ur system, but if it wrx a lil then u should just have to recharge it.

yeah, I was leaning towards a recharge for a first attempt. Just curious, does the 98 have a cabin filter for the A/C?

ok, so I have a new theory. My a/c problems started after I put in my new head unit, could I have accidentally loosened a wire for the a/c controls when I was pushing around the wires under the dash? Cuz my a/c worked for a half hour today before I turned it off, and it seems like it stops working when I hit bumps.

If it quits when you hit bumps, I'd check the electrical connection to the back of the compressor, make sure it's tight. As far as in the dash, you can go back and make sure all connections are tight to the back of the control ***** and everything, and make sure you didn't loosen any of the vacuum line connections in there that go to the flap actuators. I'm not a genius on the subject but I'd start there.
