CAM Shaft Retard Setting
#1
Does the Cam Shaft Retard have to be set or will the computer re-adjust itself?
Is the IGN ADV the reading on my scan tool the Cam Shaft Retard reading?
The reason I am asking this is that I am getting different answers to the 1st question.

Camshaft retard streaming data is listed under "Camshaft Retard" or "CMP retard" on a capable scan tool. (depending on the scan tool you're using, it could be listed either way.) The adjustment aligns the camshaft position sensor with the camshaft. It is adjusted by rotating the distributor. Desired spec is zero degrees, with a tolerance of plus or minus 2 degrees. From the factory, the adjustment range is approximately 11 total degrees. If it can not be adjusted within spec, the distributor hold down bracket needs to be modified or replaced in order to make the distributor fully adjustable.
IGN ADV indicates how many degrees of ignition timing the PCM is applying to the ignition module. It is not adjustable.
