Default can i drain a quart or 2 out?

Hey guys just a quick question here, i recently replaced my 4l60e tranny, and i believe i added to much tranny fluid to her when I was finished. Is it safe to go underneath loosen the polts on the pan, not take them all the way out but just loosen them and let a quart or 2 drain out, and then tighten the bolts up again, and just clean the pan after on the outside? Will this be ok for the gasket and everything? I did the tranny job a week ago so gasket is still new?

Are you doing a hot or cold check of the fluid level? I would be afraid the gasket won't seal correctly if you do that, but I don't know of any other way. Worse case, you remove the bolts drain some and be sure to check for leaks. If it is leaking, you will have to drain it all, clean up the pan and re do the job.

You could try to run some tubing down the filler tube and siphon some out. With too much fluid you could blow a seal.

That works well, so does siphon, but what works even better is, next time you have the pan off, add a drain plug. Makes draining the next time far less messy!

Thats what i did. It just takes a little while. but first make sure you really did over fill it because to little fluid isnt good either

Those gaskets seal again just fine, especially if they are pretty new. I've done this before, and every time I change my fluid the old gasket comes off in perfect shape and could be reused if I wanted. Cork gaskets won't really reseal, but these big flat rubber ones do, in my experience. Taking the cooler line loose while running for a minute isn't a bad idea either.

Pull the fuel pump relay/fuse off,try to start it till it just turns over. Remove the oil cooler line and run a piece of rubber hose from it to a jug. have friend crank the blazer over until you think you have enough out. Dont do it while its running. I found out the hard way that it will pump TOOOO MUCHHHH at a high pressure. Lets just say i ended up spending 2 hours cleaning up the engine bay from where the fan blew it everywhere. lol
