Default Change 1996 ECM to 1998 ECM?

Have 1996 LT with ABS lamp on steady... Because of GM architecture Autoenguity with GM expansion can not read ABS system (nor can most other scan tools) on 1996 & 1997 models. There are a very few scan tools that can communicate with 96 & 97 ABS... All of them are very expensive $600.00 plus... Basicly you need a GM (Vertronix) Tech 1 or Tech 1A scan tool plus cartrages, if you can find any, same prices for Snap-On.
So my question can a 1996 ECM be swaped electricly for a 1998??.
Thanks

You should search this site, but from what I've read here and elsewhere,I believe there was a harness change from 97 to 98,not only with ABS but other components as well.
