I had the same problem after doing a water pump, it turned out not to be enuff water in the system yet, let it cool off check the water level again.. I cant pic anything other than that being the cause..how long did it run b4 overheating?? It prob has an air pocket in the system that hasnt allowed the water to flow properly yet... If i`m not mistaking the trick to that is Take off the rad cap jack up the back of the truck higher than the front and then jack up the pass side of the truck also at the same time and that will help with getting the air posket out... Dont sweat the petty things and dont pet the sweaty things!!! you`ll get it we have faith in ya...

Actually, you would raise the front, not the back, with the passenger's side slightly higher.

didn't overheat but it was hotter than usual. i could only fit a gallon of antifreeze in it. i thought it should take alot more than that, bottom rad hose was warm and the top hose was ice cold, also heater hoses were cold,

how long did you have it running? it sounds like the thermo may be stuck closed...Did you replce that?and poss it upside down??

It does sound like a thermostat problem. Did you replace it when you did the gaskets?? If you didn't I would replace it with a new one and see if that does the trick for you, this whole thing just seems like that is preventing any type of flow!

did you let the truck run with the cap off?
just sounds like its low on fluid to me let it warm up with the cap off and make sure the raditator is full

I will parrot the low on water comments. You really need to go through all of the motions to make certain that you have all of the air out of the system. This includes elevating the front with the passenger side slightly higher than the driver. Then run the truck up to operating temperature with the cap off. Don't put the cap back on until you have gone through a few heat cycles (ie. warm up the engine to full operating temperature, then let it cool, add coolant, repeat until the level doesn't drop that much).
