Default Changing T-case fluid

When changing the T-case fluid does the Blazer need to be driven in 4WD for a length of time prior, to heat everything up or can I just drain the fluid after Blazer has been sitting overnight?

Have never changed T-case fluid before and thought I would ask.

Thanks

That is what I was planning on doing, but did not know if the the T-case fluid needed to be heated so as to contain moisture like engine oil or not.

I will just need to get some hose and a funnel in order to fill it.

Thanks for the reply.

I just drained and refilled mine. I always do multipe fluid changes on my vehicles when i buy them used under the pretense of (let the new fluid clean out a bit then change it again). I did that with my t-case fluid and it looked just like new when i did the second fluid change. It was useless to do the second fluid change but that was for my piece of mind. Just remember you can always do another fluid change after awhile if you are not comfortable with it when it got changed.

It was my plan to change the fluid when I bought the '02 Blazer....however that was 7 yrs ago. Hopefully better late than never.

Planning on doing both diffs at the same time as well. Have 102k on the clock now, so I think it would be a good thing to do.

Also got to get the gasket for the rear diff along with additonal 90W lube.

Sweet. If you have a little extra cash i would invest in getting a new diff cover. Mine looked ok but when i took it off it was rusted almost completely though. It was only $10-15 at Oriellys Auto. The front diff was easy because there is a drain and fill plug. Oh and if you have a 4 button (Auto 4WD option) make sure to get the correct fluid. That fluid is only sold at dealerships. If you have a 3 button then gear oil works great.

Yes have the 4 button so I got the correct fluid (smurf juice) from the dealership last week...finally!

Good suggestion on the replacement diff cover. Think I will at least purchase a replacement along with the gasket to have with me when I do the fluid change.

Thanks for the suggestions. I need to get busy.

3 button takes auto trans fluid not gear oil.
