Default Check Engine Light

I have a 2002 blazer and for the past 2 months, my check engine light has been on. I had it checked and was basically told it was something with the valves and my car is so old, it would be too expensive to fix. Recently, I had some other things fixed on my car and the light went off. I'm wondering if it went off because everything is okay or if it burned out? When I start the car every other light on the dash goes on, but the check engine soon light. I can't remember if that came on during start up? Is it really possible that it burned out after 2 months of being on?? Thanks for the help!

ok a couple of things here:

#1 cant help you on the SES light unless you pull the code so we know what you are up against.

#2 if you had work done and they unhooked the battery/cleared the codes while working on it, it can reset the previously tripped code.

#3 a 2002 is only like 9 years old (at worst) how is it possibly too old to work on?!?

#4 no. the light did not burn itself out

Some answers to your questions
1) I have a friend who is a mechanic, so he is going to pull the code on Tuesday to see what is going on.
3) I was typing too fast earlier and not paying attention to what I was writing. I didn't mean too old, I meant, it is not smart money-wise. My car has just under 130,000 miles on it and whatever needed to be fixed was not necessary for the car to run and for us to fix it, it would be more than the car is worth.
4) I stopped for gas last night on my way home from work and when I started the car once, the SES light came on with all the other lights for a second at start up, so I turned it off and tried again and it did not come on with all the other lights at start up.
Thanks for your help!
