Unhappy Check Engine Light problem

This has happened twice now to my 2005 Blazer. When I go on the on ramp to the highway (freeway) on a hill, the check engine light flashes for about 15 seconds and then shuts off. 3 weeks ago the battery died and they also replaced somehting to do witht eh 4x4 (sais it was "always" in 2nd).

Anyway, what could be the cause of the flashing check engine? I am an army wife and hubby is away right now.

Yes, and only a couple of times. I was going to drive for 2 hours but turned around and went home when it happened today. The light flashed for about 15 seconds and then stopped. Seems ok but I didn't want to chance it breaking down. I made an appiintment at the dealship to have it looked at but can't get in until Monday. What could it mean?? Thanks again!!

Well...the 4x4 is controlled by the transfer case. But it wouldn't be "stuck in 2nd." Only the transmission itself could be stuck in 2nd. And I doubt they meant the transfer case was in 2-Hi, because that's the normal setting, unless you need to engage the 4x4 for whatever reason. You're not gonna do that on the highway unless the weather's really bad.

Before spending a boatload of money at the stealership on this, your best bet is to take your truck to get the codes read. Autozone does it for free, and other parts stores may as well. (I bought my own code reader so that I have peace of mind in knowing exactly what the problem is without having to trust some lying mechanic.) Anyway, it is very important that you know exactly what the PCM (ship's computer) is complaining about. After you get the codes read, post again in this forum to let us know what it said.

Thanks so much!! We don't have Autozone here... And no one will rasd the computer for free. Sucks. You;re right it was something to do witha ttransfer case and my bad, it was always in 2hi and if I switched 4hi or lo it "wasn't really in the gear." That's what the stealership (I love that and am stealing your word now!!) said to me anyway. I have the extended warranty, so I pay ofr disgnostic and $100 deductible on most stuff. Still a lot tho!

They checked the flashing light about 3 weeks ago and fixed the problem i mentioned and replaced the battery, too. Not sure why its doing this again. I will let you knwo what they say!!!!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a flashing check engine light mean a misfire?

If that's the case you should definitely get it fixed soon!

That's what my manual says, too. Hope it's not that!

Yep, that is what it means. Misfire which can potentially cause permanent damage to the engine.

When was the last time a full tune up was done?

OK, so the dealership did a diagnostic this morning an said the code is P0300. Misfire detected on #6 cylinder. BUT, they don't know what's wrong and saids it looks fine now??? SO, question becomes... what should I do now? They said to drive and if there's any lurching or jerking to come back?? WHat does this mean? THANKS!!

Is the light still on? I would think the truck would know if there's something wrong, that that doesn't come on just because... especially on pretty new truck. If I were you, i'd drive it for a few days, if the light comes back on take it to a shop, not the dealership, and explain to them what is going on.
