will a coil off a 96 4.3 work on my 95 4.3 mine has vertical cap why i ask i know a guy who pull his motor out to put a v8 in and he has a msd coil he want to sell

It will work, but it will require some modification of the connectors.

For my '95, they list two different part numbers for the coils, and the one mine takes (horizontal distributor) is more expensive than the one for the vertical spark plug towers.

Is there a way to modify the connector to take the less expensive coil?

Of course, it's probably a moot point, since I just replaced my coil a few months ago, and I'll probably be replacing the engine before the new coil needs replacement!

Check with a boneyard, you can probably find the electrical connector for the old style coil. You'll need to "engineer" a new way to mount it as well. My experience is that it takes longer, and usually more expensive in the long run, to re-engineer it.
