i have 2000 4dr and i was looking at K&N full intakes but they are around 250-300 bucks.. whats the next best brand or a good but not to expensive intake. thanks -Tom

 

Remove the airbox from the truck. Swiss cheese the airbox below the air filter with a drill and 1/2" wood bit. Re-install the airbox and slap a K&N or other high flow air filter in it. I know I will get flack for this but... I also removed the screen from my MAF. I did all this about 25K miled ago and have had no problems with it. This will net you about 2 more mpg depending on how hard you drive the vehicle.

 

The MAF screen does not impede flow. Personal testing with my data logger has shown that.

Have a search around the forum and you will find a DIY approach to building a heat shield and use a cheap eBay intake. Just make sure that you toss the el-cheapo filter and put a good K&N filter on. You want to get as much cold air to the engine as you can. Simply punching holes into the bottom of the stock air box will increase your IAT's over stock. This will not help and in most cases can negate the gains of a free-er flowing filter.

would rerouting the air inlet in the airbox to an area where air flows more direct give me more power? and also would a fan forcing air into it work as well?

 

However you have to go about getting ambient temperature air, do it.

As far as a fan, do not even waste your time.

 

I paid $45 for mine off of ebay and love it! The support strap was a little cheesy and I had to make a better one but over all I nice sut-up and it came with a washable filter just like the K&N one.

Outside are temp. or "fresh" air. ie. not hot air.

 

Also, I have some hot rod friends that frequent the plumbing and air conditioning isles at Home Depot every time they get a new ride. It's kinda amazing what they can build out of 4" PVC, hose clamps and various connectors. lol
