Default Control arm ball joint recall

The nhtsa list a 96-97 Jimmy 4wd upper control arm ball joint recall, i know that my 97 jimmy has not gotten this. Now I call gmc and they tell me that there is only a seat belt recall for my vehicle. My ball joint is going bad on the drivers side and alignment is starting to get out of whack. Are they bs'ing me or is this recalled really expired?

I don't know about the recall but c'mon man, you have a 13 year old car that is prone to ball joint failures. Bite the bullet and pay to have it done! On the bright side, once you've PAID to fix, you will get a warranty on the repair. If GM pays, you don't.

i would be surprised if you still have factory ball joints to begin with. How many miles are on it? I havent heard of the recall either. If there ever was one you probably missed it by 12years or so.

If a safety recall exists, GM must replace the failed component regardless of age. If the recall was already performed with "improved" components, then their obligation is fulfilled and further repairs will be at the owner's expense.

There are VIN breaks on most recalls. You truck may not be in the VIN sequence that the recall you found applies to.

To my knowledge, recalls never expire. Although, with the recent bankruptcy and all, they could.

This is of, course, if they are the original parts. Check to see if your ball joints have rivets or not. If they have rivets then they are original.

My recommendation would be print out the recall and bring it down to the dealer. Worst comes to worst, you have to fix it yourself. Best outcome is they'll do it for you.

Where did you find this recall? I have a 97 Blazer 4x4 with 120,000 miles & original ball joints. They are riveted in.
Just curious. Mine show wear but are still not bad.
