Coolant leak after replacing coolant temp sensor and thermostat
Hi I have a 1997 Chevy blazer 4x4. I have noticed that the engine has been running at about 160°. I have been getting about 12 mpg so I decided to replace the thermostat in hopes that the engine would get up to the proper operating temperature and my gas mileage would increase. There didn’t really seem to be a difference in temperature so I replaced the coolant temperature sensor the next day. My blazer has 2 of these but the one I replaced was on the thermostat housing. Right after I replaced it I took it for a short drive to see if the engine would heat up enough but It was still only got up to around 160 though maybe I just didn’t drive it long enough to give it time to heat up. When I got home I noticed a puddle of coolant from where I drove off. It doesn’t seem to be coming from the thermostat housing or the coolant temperature sensor. When I look under it I see some dripping from around a skid plate, but I can’t quite tell where it’s coming from without taking it off. I would but it’s been freezing out and I’m waiting till the weather is better. This didn’t seem to happen until right after I replaced the coolant temperature sensor, but maybe it has something to do with the thermostat I replaced the day before? Any help, advice, or comments would be appreciated.
Sincerely, blazinblzr
