Hey guys just bought a 96' Blazer a couple weeks ago and it has an 00' engine in it. The problem is the belt squeaks a lot(mostly when it rains and the day after) and the crankshaft pulley is wobbling. Is this normal for it to wobble a bit? The belt has small cracks in the ribs and I read that could contribute to the squeaking. What are your thoughts on this?

 

ive had my 2000 for about 2 yrs now and the crankshaft pully has wobbled since i got it.
right now my truck is in the shop to have the tranny rebuilt lol

 

There shouldn't be much if any noticable wobble in the crank pulley. How much does the tensioner move while the engine is idling?

If the belt is checked (cracked in the ribs), replace it. I recommend a Goodyear Gatorback belt. The Gatorback is what I put on my old Bravada when I had the squealling problem and over the next 2 years, it never came back. Gates and Dayco are other premium belt manufacturers.

 

yea i just got a gatorback its cool.
on mine....the crankshaft pully is very noticably wobbly. i got a new tensioner and it dont move really. my last one was all over the place

 

Went and got the belt replaced, which eliminated the squealing. They said at the shop it was the harmonic balancer making it wobble so if I get off work early enough tomorrow I am going to see if Napa has it in stock. On a side note I installed some 12" MTX subs, amp. cap, a Pioneer P4900IB headunit, claybarred the blazer, and bought a nice Simoniz cordless random orbit polisher Looks amazing after the claybar, can't wait to see what it looks like after I hit it with the wax. Oh yeah and I used some Mother back to black on the trim it worked well too. Pics to come after she's waxed!

 

New harmonic balancer fixed the problem. Runs a lot quieter now

 

so the crankshaft pulley doesnt wobble anymore? what do you mean quieter?
my pulley has wobbled since i got it, i wonder if i should get a new harmonic balancer
