1. check the fuse
2. check the brake lights to ensure they work or are not stuck on (voltage from the brake light switch deactivates the cruise control)
3. check the cable linkage between the cruise control actuator and the throttle linkage. The cruise control module is located on the driver's side firewall.
4. check the wire connection at the cruise control actuator look for damaged or broken wires.
5. check the speed sensor . 2wd its located in the transmission housing near the output shaft. 4wd its located on the top left rear of the transfer case. Disconnect the connector and use a multimeter to probe the wires and check for about 5 volts between the yellow wire (+) and purple wire (-).
6. you can take the truck to Auto Zone or other place and have a scanner test ran for trouble codes 24 or P0500. If these are found there's a problem with the speed sensor control circuits.
hope this helps
