I kept finding a light brown color grease "blobs" on alot of the underside, left side. Checked the CV boot and could not find any splits or anything, so I would clean the grease off only to find it again a few weeks later.
So I decided to replace the left side CV axle shaft.
No more problem.

Just yesterday I noticed light brown color grease "blobs" on alot of the underside, RIGHT side.

Have not checked the CV boot yet, but suspect I will not find any splits or tears.

Is the grease leaking out from the ends of the CV boot or is there something else going on here??

 

The boots eventually dry out, and with the constant flexing, (which is what pumps the grease throughout the joint) they develop hairline cracks and begin to leak. As the cracks open up, the grease is pumped out.

 

Well....I guess the CV boot has done just that...still not able to see any signs of grease on the boot itself showing me where there is a crack/split...just alot on the lower control arm.

So I guess I could either cut the old boot off and try one of those clamp-on boots....but I never had much faith in them......so time to order a new right side CV half shaft.

Any place better than RockAuto?

 

Split boots are a waste of time. I always deal locally for half shafts, if there's a problem, you can get another one right away. Usually run $70 or less. You can usually haggle with them and they'll knock it down.
