Default Dead Battery

Battery has been dying a lot lately, not really sure why. The guy at Autozone said it could be my recent driving habits. The Blazer over the past month has went 2-5 miles between starts at a max speed of 45 mph. He said this isn't enough to recharge the battery completely after starting the car? Does this make sense? It doesn't sound right to me...

The battery and alternator both passed the in car test. He did mention the alternator had a low voltage out for the first minute (12-13) but increased slowly to the 14-15 range.

What else could be killing it so often? Where do I start testing? It is still snowing here and super windy so jumping my car every few days is getting very annoying and inconvenient.

The battery and alt are about 1 and a half years old.

I've had my battery die on me a couple times because my negative terminal was pretty crusty. You have to disconnect it and get any crap off of the cable and you're terminal.

Same happened to me. Battery dead after two weeks.
Same finding with the alternator. It always took a while to get up to voltage (which IMHO is not normal). As soon as you have over 1'000 rpm it has to read 14V.

Lucky for me the alternator gave in completely and I had to change it. Afterwards no more dead batteries.

The alternator may be worth a closer look into.

Sadly the parts store won't give me a new alternator (lifetime warranty) unless they determine that it is busted and I don't have $120 to throw at another new one.

I'll double check the terminals tonight when the snow lets up a bit. If I remember correctly they were clean, but they could be loose.

The snow finally stopped and the sun decided to show itself. I checked the terminals and they looked fine. I had a friend take the battery to Autozone to get it a full charge while I was in class. Evidently now that it has a full charge they've detected that it is bad.

At least it is under warranty still, so I get the battery for free.

Really happy for you. Went through that jumping every couple of days, and in the snow.
