Default disc brake dust shields-between rim & rotor

im thinking of getting a set for the blazer, but for the opposite reason one would normally buy them, the blazer has some aftermarket spoke wheels, very large openings between spokes (7 spoke wheel) and im wondering about road salt during the winter causing premature rotor problems. (corroision, pitting, stuff like that) ive got a set of stock blazer rims but just cant afford the 500 bucks for a new set of tires before winter. this vehicle has had these rims on it before and the rotors were absolutly trashed to the point of eating up a set of brake pads every 3,000 miles and having poor brake performance. put new rotors on this spring and have so far put 8,000 miles on with over 1/2 the pad life remaining, and the brakes work much better. granted i dont know how old the other rotors were or if being exposed to the winter salt through the large wheels spokes could have been a factor in "rotor lifespan". its about 30 bucks a set through autozone for these, just have to order them. has anyone used them notice any ill effects from doing so? i know they are mainly ment to keep the brake dust off the rims, that doesnt bother me. im just thinking it might be better for the rotors to keep the salty crap off them during the snow months.

Looks great now! But the open spoke design can cause problems in salt-use areas. Maybe the shields will continue to trap the corrosives(sand too)? But do you want to keep them on in warm months when disc cooling is important? Only 8K for 1/2 pad wear?
I get 40-60K on a set of pads(no trailering tho) Make sure your inner shields are good tho as they are supposed to use the forward inertia to sweep away water, debris etc to the outside of the unit. Yeah, look into winter rims

i do have a set of stock alloy 5-spoke wheels, tires are good enough for summer use, but i wouldnt want to run them in snow. been looking for some cheap tires i can put on them to get me by. the tires on those Z-racing rims are brand new, excellent in the snow. ive thought about just swapping the good tires onto the old ugly stock rims for winter. the blazer is the wife's vehicle and gets about 30-40 miles per day put on, its got to be ready for whatever is thrown at it. my inner spashguards are still surprizingly in decent shape. blazer has 185,000 miles. my ranger in comparison has rust-through holes in its splashguards with only 140,000 on it.
