Default DO NOT DRIVE WITH WORN OUT U-Joints

Hey guys I'm kind of new yet (young gun) I just want to warn everybody to not drive with worn out u-joint..

take a look at the results.

this is my vehicle after the front universals on the rear drive shaft blew out, traveling at about 110km/h, the drive shaft fell and dug into the ground and flipped the vehicle..

lucky to be alive.

if you hear a clunk when you place your vehicle into gear, please have your u-joints looked at.

Thank all that is good my friend!
Any strange noise in reverse is also a good indicator

Have always been terrified of this since it happened to me on my first car.

1974 Datsun wagon.

Very large sewer pipe U's are now locked in under the shafts of all my old car's. Overkill maybe but I am sure understand.

Thank you for bringing this topic up.

Glad your safe, JT.

When I was a kid 13 years old. My parents and I were in a real estate guys cadillac. We were doing 35 mph and herd a "CLUNK" I remember feeling a loud thunder under my feet. The back end of the car lifted up about 4-5 feet then slammed back down. The front universal gave and the shaft dug into the road just like what happened to you. Glad you are ok. Hope all works out with the ins.

I never dropped a front U-Joint but I did drop a rear U-Joint on Dan Ryan Expressway on my way to take a final exam at UIC. The U-Joint dropped right by UIC so I left my car walked up the side of the expressway took the exam and than called AAA for a tow home.

Another warning sign is a chirping noise at low speed, especially in reverse.
