My Son and I are in the middle of replacing the Auto trans fluid and filter on his 1999 Blazer ZR2. We have all the bolts removed, but the pan will not come down. Does the trans crossmember need removed to get the pan down? I have a GM Service Manual set, and it does not say the crossmember needs to come off to get the pan off, but I seem to remember on my 1995 S-10 Blazer 4X4 years ago, the jiffy Lube guy saying that he had to remove the trans crossmember to get the pan off that Blazer. Please help with info....Thanks!

 

On my 98 Jimmy, I just dropped one side of the cross member and that allowed enough room for the pan to drop down. Be careful not to damage the shift solenoids by trying to force the pan off or you will be dropping it again to replace the solenoids.

 

yep, cross member has to be moved out of the way in order for the pan to come off. and like jck1961 says above, dont force the pan on or off or it will break the shift soloniod.

On my 2000 ZR2 I don't have to drop the crossmember? It is a little tricky, though. Can't recall at the moment but you need to move the pan either forward or backwards, drop one end and then pull out.

I don't imagine yours is much different?

 

Yea on a 4l60e Trans you dont have to move the crossmember, There are little gaps in between the crossmember & the pan for that purpose. You just use a 1/4 inch drive socket size 12 or 13mm for the pan& 10mm for the linkage, size's could be off a little i havent done 1 in a few months.

 

Some do, some don't. I have done quite a few and I can't remember a real connection between the ones that required it and those that didn't. If you cannot get it out of there with a little bit of fiddling, drop the cross member.

 

I had to unbolt the crossmember and slide it back a inch or so to get the pan to come down.....

 

unbolt tail mount on trany and raise up 1 inch and pan shoud drop out easy

 

Well thats exaclty what happened to me on my 97.. broke them right off.. lessoned learned..
