I've done it, and yes, it was awful tight in there.
On a positive note, the part wasn't very expensive and the motor has held up fine for at least 6 months so far.
If you haven't had to remove the door panels before, a word of warning, those plastic tabs will break fairly easily, be sure to line them up carefully before attempting to seat them.

Yeah Ive pulled panels in these trucks a lot considering Im on my 4th S series vehicle! haha. But Ive never had to change one of these and its really annoying the **** out of me everytime I lock my doors my drivers door doesnt lock. Any advice about getting in there? I pulled that panel yesterday and made sure it wasnt bound linkage or anything and its def the actuator. I hit the button and it makes the familier noise and trys to move but I assume the little plastic gear is stripped. So any advice that you have to make my day easier and less full of cursing when I get around to getting one? haha thanks man

As far as tips and tricks I don't remember any in particular, I just kept wriggling around in there. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I have the same problem, except my lock/unlock arm is broken off the actual lock actuator, this is my next project it looks to me like if you remove the 3 torx that hold the door latch assembly onto the door it should open the space up alot in there because going thru the door with the panel off is not possible for me i can barely get my hand in there to unplug the harness off of the actuator. im gonna change my fuel tank tomorrow because i smell some gas under the truck, after i am done with that im gonna try to get to this, when i do i will let you know what u have to do to change it.
