Default Driver Information Center problem 97 S10 Blazer

Hello, I am new to this forum and I hope that I have posted this question in the correct location.

I have a 97 4x4 S10 Blazer (believe it is called a ZR2 package) that I bought new and have enjoyed driving since day one, over 160,000 miles ago.

The overhead console contains a driver information center that displays outside temperature, Direction, Instant MPG, MPG since last reset, and fuel consumption since last reset.

Recently, I had to replace the ignition cylinder and ignition switch. Since that repair the overhead console does not display any information. It is on - just no data to display. Upon start-up, for the first several seconds it displays the information then looses the data.

The shop that replaced the switch and cylinder said that they did nothing that could have injured the overhead console information and they weren't interested in locating and fixing the problem.

I have really liked having this information and would like to have it working properly again. I would appreciate any info on where to begin to fix or research this.

Thank you,
jwise

I know this is a very old thread and @ibyz did not receive a reply but I'm hoping someone sees this and maybe has an answer. I still own a 1997 Blazer and just recently had to replace a broken ignition cylinder in the steering column. After completing the repair, the Blazer started and everything seemed to work fine until I noticed the exact same problem with the overhead console display - "for the first several seconds it displays the information then looses the data."

If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

The ignition lock cylinder I bought was a Dorman 926-055 (see screen shot).

I found that the digital console display works sometimes when I start it - about 10% of the time. I'm beginning to think it may not be related to the replacement ignition cylinder. When it doesn't work, the temperature displays for a few seconds after starting, but then changes to - - ° F and the compass does not update as the vehicle changes directions. It displays the direction the vehicle was last facing when it was started.

Long console, no sunroof.

Display when working properly. Compass and temperature update normally.

Display when NOT working properly. Temperature not displayed and compass does not update as the vehicle turns.

Looks like I need a replacement part number 12376609. This part is a compass, electronic (compass/temp/trip) (9 pinion connector). Can't find one on the internet to purchase (discontinued). Couldn't find one on eBay either. I may have to start looking for junk yards. Here are photos of the current unit.
